The term Latinx has caused incredible amounts of conflict within our community – battles reminiscent of the switch from Hispanic to Latino. As a community we are reshaping the concept of Latinidad. In this conversation we will also engage in a conversation about queerness in the Latinx community and what a coalition requires of us.

In this personal segment Alicia Menendez,  journalist and multimedia storyteller will get real persona with Julissa Arce a writer, social justice activist, and nationally best-selling author of My (Underground) American Dream and Someone Like Me as they discuss the myth of assimilation.   Julissa’s forthcoming book You Sound Like a White Girl: The Case for Rejecting Assimilation is a powerful dual polemic and manifesto against the myth that assimilation leads to happiness and belonging for immigrants in America.
